Margot Robbie wore outfits channeling different versions of Barbie to promote the “Barbie” movie.
Robbie’s inspiration ranged from the first-ever Barbie to Enchanted Evening Barbie.
Here are all the outfits, some of which were direct copies of those worn by Barbie dolls.
Before the press tour began, Margot Robbie was already channeling Barbie at CinemaCon.
Margot Robbie and the “Barbie” cast attended the Warner Bros. Pictures presentation at CinemaCon in April.
Robbie wore a Prada top and skirt, which is similar to the pink gingham dress she wears early in the movie. This look appears to be inspired by the 1964 “Dancing Doll” Barbie.
The “Barbie” global press tour began in Los Angeles, where Margot Robbie went for a modern Barbie look.
Robbie’s stylist, Andrew Mukamal, said on Instagram that this outfit was inspired by the 2015 Pink & Fabulous Barbie doll.
The “Barbie” star wore a halter Valentino minidress and white Manolo Blahnik heels, according to Elle.
Here’s what the ’56 Chevy looks like in the trailers.
In the highly anticipated movie, Robbie plays the titular character as she goes on a journey of self-discovery. The movie, directed by Greta Gerwig, has a star-studded cast that includes Ryan Gosling, Will Ferrell, Issa Rae, Helen Mirren, and John Cena.
Next on the tour was Australia, where Robbie channeled the outfit worn by the first Barbie doll.
Barbie was first released in 1959, and the doll wore a striped swimsuit, black heels, and sunglasses.
Robbie wore the swimsuit in the first trailer for the movie.
Robbie then attended Vogue’s “Barbie” celebration party at the Museum of Contemporary Art in Sydney.
This Versace look doesn’t appear to have been inspired by a Barbie doll but is reminiscent of a look once worn by the model Claudia Schiffer.
At the “Barbie” premiere in Seoul, South Korea, Robbie went a step further when she wore two Barbie-inspired outfits.
The 1985 Day to Night edition of Barbie featured a reversible skirt that allowed children to change between the two outfits, hence why Robbie had her own transformation on the night.
The next day, Robbie dressed as a ’60s Barbie when arriving at a Seoul press conference.
Mukamal said on Instagram that this outfit was inspired by the 1964 Sparkling Pink version of Barbie.
Robbie jumped to the ’90s for inspiration for the premiere in Naucalpan de Juarez, Mexico.
According to Page Six, Robbie was wearing a sheer long-sleeved top over a strapless neon pink Balmain minidress to the carpet.
Robbie stuck with the 90s for her next outfit at the Mexico photocall at Four Seasons Hotel Mexico City.
According to InStyle, Robbie is wearing a Pucci minidress with Chanel bow-like earrings and Manolo Blahnik heels.
At the “Barbie” World Premiere in Los Angeles, California, Robbie opted for a classy ’60s Barbie look.
Harper’s Bazaar reported that the glittering gown is a custom Schiaparelli dress.
Robbie stayed in 1960 for the London premiere with a look inspired by “Enchanted Evening” Barbie.
According to InStyle, the Vivienne Westwood gown featured a tulle stole to mimic the original Barbie’s faux fur, a rosette appliqué, and a train that resembles the one you could detach from the doll’s hip.
Robbie also wore a stacked pearl collar and PVC pumps.
On the same day, Robbie changed into another outfit for the London photocall.
This look appears to be inspired by the 1963 swimsuit Barbie.
Months after “Barbie” premiered in theaters, Robbie wore an outfit inspired by the 2015 “Cherry Pie Picnic” Barbie.
Robbie wore a pair of Manolo Blahnik heels that matched the heels worn by the doll.
