2023 Swedish Fashion Council Opts For Fashion Experience Over Runways

The Swedish Fashion Council (SFC) officially launched SFC [FASHION X] Stockholm, a 5-day experience, or Fashion Week, that hosted fashion industry thought leaders, executives, media, and influencers in one place to share ideas and discuss the many solutions that lead us to circular fashion models.

From November 7 to 11, 2023, SFC [FASHION X] commenced with a round table discussion that was apt to seat a diverse selection of minds across from one another to provide insight into the many seams within the industry to reach a zero net carbon goal, perceivably by 2030.

SFC’s shift from hosting Stockholm Fashion Week in 2018 to its current focus on industry transformation has led to the creation of events like SFC [FASHION X] Stockholm, aimed at addressing the evolving challenges and changes in the fashion industry. The event is supported by partners like OnceMore® from Södra and the Swedish Trade Federation.

The round table was an introduction to the second edition of the Fashion Transformation report attended by notable industry representatives from the `United Nations Alliance for Sustainable Fashion, McKinsey, Eriksson, and Polestar. Including brands, fashion veterans like consultant Serge Carreira and Bryan Conway of Tiger of Sweden, focusing on transformation.

Denver Fashion Week Dazzles at First Ever Society Night

As Denver Fashion Week entered day six, excitement was escalating on the runway for the first-ever presentation of the “Society” theme. Fashion lovers from all over the Mile High City convened at York Street Yards to take in a show that explored the complex relationship between fashion and society as well as showcasing the newest designs.

The host for the night, Tyler Bender, a popular influencer known for her comedy TikToks, started the show by introducing the night’s entertainment, Spring Page also known as The Black Madonna. She won 303 Magazine’s first-ever Entertainer Challenge.

Geo in Style X Salle de Mode

The first set of designers to hit the runway was Geo in Style X Salle de Mode. They brought in a line filled with geometric-inspired designs in black, white, nude, and leather.

With its futuristic motif and lion head embellishments on jackets, shoes, and purses, the crowd favorite was the lion head-adorned ankle-length sneakers that some of the models wore down the runway. A fantastic, futuristic, and seductive vision was presented by Geo in Style and Salle de Mode.

The next designer, Savaneli, started off her runway show with a performance from two dancers who wore garments from Savaneli’s collection.

The collection itself featured a vibrant, iridescent range of patterns. Wearing dazzling dresses, skirts, and jogger-vest combos, the models shined as they walked the runway. The gowns were fashioned in the “off-the-shoulder” goddess style. A couple of models were wearing sweat sets with images influenced by techno.

Kim Kardashian wears a silk gown with diamond jewellery at Victoria Beckham’s Paris Fashion Week show – 7 years after being robbed at gunpoint in the French

Victoria Beckham kicked off her Paris Fashion Week show on Friday, with support from her many A-list pals. 

And leading the glamorous arrivals was Kim Kardashian who slipped into a lilac satin gown with a scooped neckline. 

The Reality TV star, 42, accessorised with layers of diamond jewellery, seven years after she was robbed at gunpoint during the event. 

In October 2016, criminals stole a jewellery box worth €6 million ($6.7 million/ £5.24 million) and a ring worth €4 million ($4.5 million/ £3.5 million) after breaking into her hotel room and holding a gun to her head. 

Kim has since spoke of her hesitance over wearing expensive jewellery and said ‘no expensive items ever come’ into her home.

Stepping out to Victoria’s show this week, she teamed her elegant gown with a pair of nude, barely-there heels. 

Kim styled her hair straight and topped off her look with bronzed makeup and a chunky silver ring. 

She was joined by her mum, Kris Jenner who mirrored her look in a black satin gown, layering over a leather biker jacket. 

In 2021, Kim opened up about how she is a ‘completely different person’ after being robbed of millions, at gunpoint, during Paris Fashion Week in October 2016. 

‘As far as jewelry, if I’m wearing something, it’s borrowed. It’s fake,’ she told Andy Cohen during the Keeping Up with the Kardashians reunion.

Silk, Streetwear And More Stun At Los Angeles Fashion Week 2023

Los Angeles Fashion Week, presented by N4XT Experiences, ran from October 18 to 22, 2023. showcasing, more than anything else, up-and-coming talents. When one typically thinks of a Hollywood-based fashion extravaganza, brands like Revolve and Alo come to mind; so do the Kardashians. But instead, we saw futuristic fashion, sportswear-inspired looks and a dash of the macabre. Some of highlights included silk pieces, quiet luxury beige and sci-fi couture.

It may be hard for young designers to make it in the fashion industry, but it’s even harder for women. In a sea of male fashion designers, LAFW showcased a total of 12 runway shows and presentations. Three and a half of them were female designers—Sami Miro; Imitation of Christ designer Tara Subkoff; Demo, co-designer of the Demobaza brand; and Claude Kameni (sadly, a show by Tiffany Brown was canceled last minute).

In this space, Kameni was a star. Think of statement silk pieces, bold patterns that aren’t too loud or abrasive and a quiet confidence that only a female designer brings to our closets. A woman truly knows what a woman wants to wear. Sophistication and style were welcomed to the runway, along with modern takes on historic cuts.

Every Los Angeles Fashion Week show needs a splash of New York City for it to really vibe. Gypsy Sport, a brand first founded in Harlem by designer Rio Uribe, is celebrating its 10-year anniversary this year. 21 Paris Fashion Week 2023 Moments That Shocked & Awed

Paris Fashion Week, the most anticipated final leg of fashion month, is officially over. Between the sartorial wonders on runways and the top-tier front-row guest permutations, PFW did not disappoint with countless moments causing a stir among the fashion set.

The surprises started before PFW had even officially commenced, with shocking headlines putting a spotlight on an upcoming show. Balmain’s Olivier Rousteing announced that pieces from his unreleased collection were stolen from a delivery van a mere 10 days before they were set to hit the runway. While the garments were never recovered, Balmain’s team put on an incredible show punctuated by lots and lots of rosettes.

Several other collections took inspiration from the bloom (read: Alexander McQueen’s Georgia O’Keeffe-inspired dress), while buzzy collections spotlighted other living creatures. At Undercover, for example, live butterflies fluttered inside terrarium dresses. Meanwhile, at Schiaparelli, lobsters were front and center, hanging from necks, waists, and crotches alike.

Off the runway, A-listers also wowed in chic ensembles. SATC fans were thrilled when Kim Cattrall made her first PFW appearance, while Selena Gomez became an instant fashion week darling.

Kylie Jenner, too, fueled fashion Twitter chatter with chic ‘fits featuring intriguing styling notes. And towards the end of Paris Fashion Week, Zendaya finally made her appearance and stunned in a plunging zipper dress.

Balmain’s Clothes Were Stolen

Every designer’s worst nightmare happened just before Balmain’s Spring 2024 show. While garments from the new collection were in transit, the delivery vehicle was hijacked and nearly 50 pieces were stolen.

Though, the team was able to recreate several of the lost items, the original garments have yet to be recovered.

Paris is abuzz with fashion week runways shows and other events though the first week of October, while by appointment only show rooms are exhibiting high luxury baubles, bangles and other jewels to retailers and members of the press. This writer caught up via email with Darren Hildrow, founder of London-based NouvelleBox and Valery Demure, a shareholder in the company who works alongside Hildrow, to learn how it has morphed from an online 24-7 virtual showroom serving independent jewelry designers, retailers and the media into a superb showcase for luxury jewels every September and March Fashion Week.

A few reasons why NouvelleBox is an increasingly influential showroom/brand consultancy/jewelry media source and trendsetter: its stands for independent luxury jewelry designers and goldsmiths, it stands for the preservation of artisanal jewelry craft heritage, and it stands to serve jewelry lovers the world over. Naomi Campbell joins McQueen’s star-studded fashion campaign

Supermodel Naomi Campbell and actors Elle Fanning and Eva Green have been unveiled as the stars of the Alexander McQueen autumn/winter campaign.

British fashion icon Campbell, 53, is pictured wearing a stunning deconstructed dress embroidered with red bugle beads – the same beading used recently on a custom creation for Beyonce’s Rennaisance tour.

In another image, Campbell – who recently welcomed her second child – wears a black strapless jumpsuit teamed with statement metallic jewellery.

She walked the runway for McQueen at Paris Fashion Week in March, wearing the same jumpsuit and statement earring.

5 Up-And-Coming Fashion Designers to Know

Personal expression through fashion has helped Dorian Who founder dorian.who/”Dorian Rahimzadeh find her focus as a designer. After growing up in Iran, Rahimzadeh studied fashion design at LaSalle College in Istanbul before moving to Toronto, where she entered the industry by volunteering at Toronto Fashion Week. In 2019, she struck out on her own and launched Dorian Who, an avantgarde streetwear brand focused on slow-made, seasonless fashion. Incorporating deadstock fabrics, Rahimzadeh’s made-to-order pieces reflect her Persian heritage, and each of her collections is focused on a different theme. Her fifth collection, released earlier this year, is called “Noor” and was inspired by a show of solidarity with oppressed communities around the globe and their emerging movements. Bold tones and prints and military fabrics are a call for attention and the need for women’s voices to be heard, while the contrast between traditionally masculine and feminine elements reflects the individual’s search for gender equality. In 2022, she was nominated for the Award for Emerging Talent, Fashion, at the Canadian Arts & Fashion Awards. Given the brand’s aim to empower those who wear its designs, it’s no surprise that one of Dorian Who’s signature pieces is a padded headband—a crownlike statement maker that’s fit for a queen.

Elena Velez’s hometown of Milwaukee, Wis., is better known for beer and cheese than haute couture, but that’s exactly why it provides the designer with the inspiration to create pieces that are unlike anything else on the runways. Hayet Rida gambles on a Bucktown jewelry boutique that defies some rules of retail

Hayet Rida launched a jewelry studio in Bucktown this year that defied the typical rules of brick-and-mortar retail.

She poured her savings into a store design that evokes an art gallery, opened on weekends and zeroed in on a small-batch, hand-designed, limited-edition collection she designs herself on her iPad. 

Then, the layoff notice came. The same month she opened KHOI, she lost her job as a creative strategist with the social media giant Meta.

For a moment, things looked grim. 

A regular Instagram user, Rida documented it all, sharing the highs and lows of entrepreneurship to an Instagram following of nearly 130,000.

Then, her prospects improved. She was invited by the Black in Fashion Council to be one of 10 Black designers to exhibit work in a discovery showroom at New York Fashion Week, which starts Sept. 7.

In the span of a year, Rida, 34, has gone from e-commerce designer to boutique owner to featured name at New York Fashion Week.

The decision to open a physical location for her business in Chicago was her biggest leap. She had to hire contractors, secure permits and figure out zoning.

Despite a tight budget, Rida found peace of mind in her strategic planning skills to keep pushing the business forward.

She said she also learned that sometimes money isn’t the sole challenge in opening a business.

“I thought having enough money and resources and planning would be the challenge, but really it’s about having trust in the process,” Rida said. “One day, everything could be going according to plan, and, the next day, a contractor can call and say something happened, and now we’re 10 weeks off schedule.
