There are three actionable areas we believe companies that handle supply chain management should focus to advance in their sustainability commitment in emerging markets like Vietnam.

Firstly, transportation contributes significantly to environmental pollution, responsible for 70 per cent of total dust and gas emissions in Vietnam. It is vital for supply chain management companies to pay close attention to routes planning and energy consumption to minimise its emissions to the environment.

Our delivery operations are optimised through the meticulous examination of factors such as vehicle types, schedules, and delivery routes, all tailored to the volume and frequency of delivery points. ‘Permanent jewelry’ makes a forever statement (though you can change your mind)

Self expression, individuality and celebration: These are some of the reasons people opt for permanent jewelry.

What began as a social media phenomenon has spread; you might see permanent-jewelry popups at the local spin studio, hair salon or farmers market, or at traditional stores.

If you’re new to the concept, permanent jewelry isn’t as scary as it sounds. A chain is made into a bracelet, anklet, ring or necklace with the ends welded together, no clasp. There’s no pain involved as there is in getting a tattoo. And technically, it’s not permanent since you can cut off the chain.

Marisa Ellman, a 39-year-old small business owner in Boulder, Colorado, was surprised a few months ago when her older sister asked her to meet, along with their mom, at a non-descript garage near the University of Colorado. A sign outside said “Love Saro.”

“My mom and I were like, ‘What are we doing here?’ but it was such a fun surprise,” Ellman said.

It was the first time she had heard of permanent jewelry.

“I love jewelry,” she said. “But I usually take my bracelets off to run or whatever.”

The trio went into the studio for a glass of champagne and a psychic card reading. Then a Love Saro employee presented a display of gold chains in varying designs and price points.

They each left with dainty bracelets fastened snugly around their wrists, and a memory in the bank. It was extra special for Ellman, who had recently lost a bracelet with her boys’ names on it.

And the permanent fixture on her wrist doesn’t bother her when she’s exercising.

“They made a whole experience, and it’s a special memory for us,” she said.

Hayet Rida gambles on a Bucktown jewelry boutique that defies some rules of retail

Hayet Rida launched a jewelry studio in Bucktown this year that defied the typical rules of brick-and-mortar retail.

She poured her savings into a store design that evokes an art gallery, opened on weekends and zeroed in on a small-batch, hand-designed, limited-edition collection she designs herself on her iPad. 

Then, the layoff notice came. The same month she opened KHOI, she lost her job as a creative strategist with the social media giant Meta.

For a moment, things looked grim. 

A regular Instagram user, Rida documented it all, sharing the highs and lows of entrepreneurship to an Instagram following of nearly 130,000.

Then, her prospects improved. She was invited by the Black in Fashion Council to be one of 10 Black designers to exhibit work in a discovery showroom at New York Fashion Week, which starts Sept. 7.

In the span of a year, Rida, 34, has gone from e-commerce designer to boutique owner to featured name at New York Fashion Week.

The decision to open a physical location for her business in Chicago was her biggest leap. She had to hire contractors, secure permits and figure out zoning.

Despite a tight budget, Rida found peace of mind in her strategic planning skills to keep pushing the business forward.

She said she also learned that sometimes money isn’t the sole challenge in opening a business.

“I thought having enough money and resources and planning would be the challenge, but really it’s about having trust in the process,” Rida said. “One day, everything could be going according to plan, and, the next day, a contractor can call and say something happened, and now we’re 10 weeks off schedule. Traditional Gurung attire at crossroads as modernity seeps in

Bimala Gurung, managing director at Sanskar School, says that from her childhood till now, she has seen drastic changes in the Gurung attire. And she doesn’t know how she feels about it. The classic way to wear the Gurung dress, with the chit ko gunyo cholo and ghalek is being replaced with more modern, Bollywood-inspired modifications. “Young people nowadays rarely have proper knowledge when it comes to the Gurung costume,” she says.

While realising that there is a need to march with the time, there is also the dreary fact that the Gurung dress is losing its originality and purity. “If one really wants to wear a Gurung dress, one must wear it properly and respectfully.”

Some young Gurung individuals also take Bimala’s stance. Sajan Gurung, 28, a visa processing officer, agrees that the traditional Gurung attire should be worn in its original form. “Currently, it appears as though we are emulating Bollywood. There is a sort of degradation in the name of style.”

For the Gurung community, the clothing serves as a symbol of resistance and celebration. Asha Gurung, the managing director of Royal Alina’s Restaurant at Baneshwar, explains that wearing the Gurung dress gives her self-confidence. But recently, she sees that many are opting for lehengas instead of the classic Gurung lungi. “The distinctiveness of our culture is getting lost. Sometimes it is important to resist change, especially when it comes to loss of tradition.”

Historically, Gurung people have been residents of the mountains and hills. This climate explains how rudimentary clothing was worn. The official opening of the Eurovision 2023 Song Contest took place Sunday in Liverpool, UK.

The event was held with the traditional “red” carpet ceremony which, for the second year in a row, however, was turquoise.

The representative of Armenia, Brunette, walked the carpet in a dress made by fashion designer Narek Jhangiryan. The First Channel television of Armenia noted that the singer’s outfit was inspired by the Mother Armenia monument of Yerevan.

“The source of inspiration for her clothes is one of the most famous monuments of Yerevan—Mother Armenia. It symbolizes the strength and beauty of Armenian women. With this look, Brunette once again emphasizes the uniqueness and spirit of the Armenian woman,” the First Channel said.

And Narek Jhangiryan, referring to the outfit he made wrote as follows: “I drew inspiration from one of the most iconic landmarks in Yerevan – the Mother Armenia statue. This powerful metallic sculpture of a woman can be seen as you enter the city center and symbolizes the strength, power, and beauty of Armenian women. My dress is a modern representation of this remarkable statue, designed to pay homage to the enduring spirit of Armenian women.”

Also, Jhangiryan made the look of Brunette for her “Future Lover” song’s music video, as well as the outfit in which the singer will perform on the Eurovision stage.

The first semifinal of Eurovision 2023 will be held on Tuesday, Brunette will perform in the second semifinal on Thursday, and the grand final of this event will be on Saturday. This year the song contest is hosted in Liverpool.
